Believe it or not Tupac Shakur would have turned 49 this week on June 16th. It’s been 24 years since his death (feeling old yet?) and this prompted Hip Hop stars and other musicians to pay tribute to the icon. Foremost, one of the stars was close friend Snoop Dogg, who shared a series of rare Tupac photos on his Instagram account. The two Hip Hop stars met at an industry party in the 90s and soon became good friends.
In fact, it was Snoop Dogg who introduced Tupac to Death Row Records, the label which helped him become a superstar. The two stars also collaborated on a number of tracks including, “2 Of Amerika’s Most Wanted” and “Wanted Dead or Alive.”
Tupac was equally talented as an actor and during his career he starred in a number of films. These include his first role at 13 in a film called Raisin in the Sun, and also his most famous role as Bishop in Juice.
What a lot of people also don’t know is that Tupac’s mother was one of 21 Black Panthers arrested in 1969, having been accused of planning a series of bombings.
She chose to defend herself and was facing more than 300 years in prison, but remarkably, managed to get the case dropped. This happened only a month before Tupac was born and the rest is history.
