As time moves on, more and more states are starting to see the wisdom of marijuana legalization. At this point, an incredible fifteen states now have legal weed available. About to be added to this list is the state of New York. Yes, before the end of 2021, marijuana will be legal in the great state of New York. This is due to the efforts of New York governor Andrew Cuomo, who has spent the last two years trying to pass a bill which would legalize the herb.
According to a recent press conference, the governor stated that too many people have been imprisoned, incarcerated, and punished for marijuana offences. He went on to say that this was a great injustice, and that it was time to remedy this. He also stated that many New Yorkers were struggling due to the coronavirus, and that this tax revenue was desperately needed. This makes sense, when you consider that studies have found that legalizing cannabis in NY can create more than 60,000 jobs and generate over $300 million in tax revenue. That being said, don’t light it up just yet, this legislation still need to be passed, and it will be a while before you can smoke freely without consequences.
