This week Drake reaffirmed his position as possibly one of the all-time biggest hip-hop stars. It was recently announced that his latest record, the Dark Lane Demo Tapes, is now the most streamed album of all time for the second week in a row.
In the last two weeks alone, it has managed to rack up an awe-inspiring 105.5 million streams. That’s over 8 million streams per day which is truly jaw dropping when you think about it. What’s surprising about this is that the album has yet to be physically released or enter into the Billboard 200 chart.
But if you’ve listened to this mixtape then you’ll obviously know why it’s doing so well. The Dark Lane Demo tapes is a stylish return to form. This is Drake at the height of his powers and if you haven’t listened to it yet, what are you waiting for?
Not only that, it’s also a matter of good timing. With millions of people being forced to stay indoors due to the coronavirus epidemic, they really have nothing better to do than listen to music. Who better to entertain the quarantined masses than Drake.?
What does this say for the future of the music industry? It’s hard to say for certain, but what we do know is that Drake is sure to be a mega star for many years to come, and is almost certain to break boundaries and defy genres no matter what he does.
